Breakers Bearded Iris

Common name: Breakers Bearded Iris
Botanical name: Iris bearded 'Breakers'

This bearded Iris can grow up to 36" tall and spread 18". It has blue violet blooms that are ruffled and profuse. These flowers make great cut flowers. The stalks are well-branched. For best growth, it needs well drained soil and fertilizer 3 times a year, first before blooms, then after blooms and then in the fall. It tolerates full sun but appreciates afternoon shade in warm, inland valleys. It prefers sandy or loamy soil and will do better with regular watering during bloom period. It is considered a rebloomer so it could bloom from late spring through late summer under the right conditions. Divide plants every 3-4 years, in August. Attracts hummingbirds.
