Trumpet Creeper

Common name: Trumpet Creeper
Botanical name: Campsis radicans

Trumpet Creeper has 3"-4" tubular, orange-red flowers; it is a vigorously growing deciduous vine, reaching 40' long. In the summer, these flowers are borne in clustered form. The vine clings to structures with small rootlets and can cling to nearly any surface. It can become rampant and top-heavy, and benefits from occasional severe pruning.

This fast-growing evergreen vine features clusters of fragrant white flowers almost all year in cool climates. It does best when grown in sun to part shade.

Cape Rush

Chondropetalum tectorum has 2-3' tall stems that shoot out in all directions from the roots. Each stem has papery bracts connected to the ends that turn from tan to dark brown, then fall off. Chondropetalum can grow in marshes, in the ground with regular watering, or in drought conditions. It tolerates full sun and shade and can be grown close to the ocean.

These Irises are 6"-18" tall and have clumps of grass-like foliage. The flowers are 3"-4" across; it makes good cut flowers and vary from white, yellow, lavender, purple, blue, and reddish purple.

Botanical name: Ceratostigma plumbaginoides

Intense blue flowers adorn the glossy green leaves of this plant in summer. This mat-forming ground cover, 12"-18" tall and wide, does well in full or part sun, needing regular watering and more during hot summer spells. Dark green leaves turn reddish in fall. This plant spreads by rhizomes. This plant does best in well draining soil but will tolerate clay soil.
