Botanical name: Cordyline baueri

Bauer's Dracaena grows to 10' high, and is topped with a 3-4' wide crown of evergreen burgundy leaves. In summer, there are clusters of fragrant white flowers. This perennial tends to get leggy so it should be underplanted with lower growing plants. It tolerates full to part sun, moist and well draining soil. When established, this plant has low water needs. It looks great in containers and near swimming pools. It tolerates coastal conditions. It does not tolerate frost so move indoors to protect it unless you live in a frost-free area.

Common name: Ferned-Leaved Tickseed
Botanical name: Bidens ferulifolia 'Goldmarie'

Tickseed grows 14'-18" tall and 24" wide quickly. It is a heat and wind tolerant variety that is perfect for cascading, bright color in baskets, containers, and window boxes. Finely divided, dark green, narrow foliage is covered with gold, single, slightly fragrant flowers. It blooms until first frost. Plant in full sun. It needs well-drained soil. This is a denser variety than the parent plant. Deadheading not necessary as new blooms keep coming up! Perennial is frost free areas.

Western Meadow Sedge

Common name: Western Meadow Sedge
Botanical name: Carex praegracilis

This California native grass can tolerate occasional flooding or standing water as it is found in marshes and wetlands. It does make a great lawn substitute as it can be mowed, will take sun and part sun and need watering once a week in hot summer months. This sedge uses much less water than sod. It can be used for erosion control also.

Amazing Red N.Z. Flax

Common name: Amazing Red N.Z. Flax
Botanical name: Phormium 'Amazing Red'

Phormium 'Amazing Red' is an evergreen perennial. This plant has many swordlike, stiffly vertical leaves in a fan pattern, reaching 2' tall. Leaves are reddish brown. Flowers are insignificant and bloom infrequently. It does better with occasional watering once it's established.

Leather Leaf Sedge

Common name: Leather Leaf Sedge
Botanical name: Carex buchananii

This orange-bronze ornamental grass/reed is 2-3' tall and 1-2' wide and does best in full sun to part shade. It needs moist soil so plant near a water feature or pond.

Silver Wormwood

Botanical name: Artemisia arborescens

Silver wormwood is a fast growing shrub to 6' tall by 8' wide. Soft, silvery foliage is a good contrast to the dull yellow flowers produced in spring. It is tolerant of a wide range of climates and soil conditons although it is a little cold tolerant to 25 degrees F.
