Mediterranean Fan Palm

Common name: Mediterranean Fan Palm
Botanical name: Chamaerops humilis

Slow growing to 20' tall and 15' wide but very hardy. The Mediterranean Fan palm is clump forming with multiple trunks. The large foliage is blue green, deeply cut and fan-shaped. It can be used as a good container subject. It does best in full sun or partial shade. Petioles have sharp spines thus this palm can be used as a barrier plant. It does best in well draining, sandy or lean soil. It needs regular watering and more during hot spells and if planted in containers. A beautiful plant to light up at night. Very heat and cold tolerant so it can be used around a pool. It tolerates coastal conditions also.
